Winter preparedness 2025: How to prevent pipes from freezing

The current forecast for Indianapolis is calling for people to get ready for significant winter weather.

Indianapolis is under a Winter Storm Watch from Sunday to Monday, and Hoosiers should prepare for the weather ahead, including making sure your pipes don't freeze.

It can cost thousands to repair the damage done by a pipe-water flood. Adding a little bit to the cost of your energy bill and taking the time to prevent a disaster may help you save in the end.

If you turn on the sink during freezing temperatures and nothing comes out, your pipes have probably frozen.

Mostly cloudy, with a low around 11 degrees. North northwest wind 5 to 9 mph becoming light northwest after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 18 mph.
